Emily's First Primary Talk

Emily gave her first talk in Primary on May 30, 2010. She is just shy of being 3 1/2 years old. She has wanted to give a talk in Primary ever since she became a Sunbeam in January. Our Primary presidency was so great to ease her into it by asking her to first say a prayer and then a scripture. She did such a great job with those that they went ahead and let her give a talk.

We practiced her talk for a long time, role playing how things would go. She was very specific about doing things in the right order. We had to put a chair that she would stand on (the podium), she would sit on the floor on a pillow (the "talk" chair) and I would pretend to be the presidency member and say, "And now Emily will give the talk...". She even involved Annie and had her pretend to give the scripture and prayer before her talk. It was really fun to see her so excited about it.

I told her that I didn't expect her to memorize it, like she did the scripture, and that I would be there to help her. We practiced it so much that she nearly had the whole thing memorized and so did I! :-) She really has an amazing memory for a 3 year old.

On the day of her talk, she did a fantastic job. She didn't do as much from memory as she did when we practiced, but I think that was because I was standing next to her. She did a wonderful job on her first Primary talk. We are so proud of her! Way to go Emily!!! We love you.

Emily Does Hear What I Say...

Sometimes we listen to the radio when we are in the car. Occasionally, I have to change the station due to the type of music being played (inappropriate content, etc.). Sometimes when I do this Emily gets frustrated and tells me to turn it back because she wants to hear that song (she likes the tune/beat). I of course explain to her that we want to listen to music that is appropriate and allows the Spirit to be with us. I tell her that when we listen to inappropriate music it makes the Spirit go away.

The other day Emily was in the car with Chad. He turned on the radio and started listening to music that Emily didn't like. She wanted him to listen to something different. She told Chad, " Dad, we can't listen to this song. It is bad and makes the Spirit go away!". Ha! Not exactly the right context, but it proves that she is listening. :-)

Emily's Preschool Graduation

This year I participated in a "mommy preschool" for Emily. The kids met for preschool once a week for a couple of hours. The mom's took turns teaching the lessons. They met at the person's house that was teaching.
Emily loved her "preschool". Even more than preschool, she loved her preschool friends. We had a really great group of kids, which made it a lot of fun. One of the moms suggested that we have a small preschool graduation for the kids on our last day. We met at a local park, had lunch and let the kids have some time to play and enjoy being together. Emily had a great time! She went all out and made them graduation caps, diplomas and cupcakes. She even had them make leis. The kids enjoyed every minute of it! (Thanks for all your hard work Jenny!)

Excited about preschool graduation.

Emily's First Visit to the Dentist

href="file:///C:%5CUsers%5CJENSEN%7E1%5CAppData%5CLocal%5CTemp%5Cmsohtmlclip1%5C01%5Cclip_filelist.xml">

We decided to take Emily to the dentist for her first check-up before moving to Rhode Island. Chad and Emily role played for weeks about what was going to happen at the dentist. By the time her appointment came around Emily was pretty excited about it. She was a little nervous at the start of her appointment, but things ended up going very well. No cavities! Good job Emily! Keep on brushing!

She was really excited about getting a new toothbrush and toothpaste.
